Thank You All

A huge thank you all for donating.  Your generosity means a lot to us and shows us how loved and respected Merelyn was.  The MSA Trust will, I'm sure, make good use of the funds.

Thank you also for all the cards and fond wishes we've all received over the past few weeks - really quite overwhelming.

We thought Merelyn's funeral was really quite beautiful - sad and low-key and gentle. We hope you'll agree Pentiddy is a peaceful, calm resting place.  We've since visited to plant up a load of snow drops 'in the green' on her burial site.  We had underestimated attendance by quite some margin so, if you didn't receive a (dis)order of service card and would like one, please let us know.

The CD fiasco:  all the CDs we handed out were faulty (grr).  If you would like another, more functional version, please do let Mid know and she'll get one to you.  There had to be something that went wrong...

Thank you.
David, Mid and Joe

Remembering Merelyn

Merelyn Knight was born on December 30th, 1944. She died on 24th January 2016 at Coombe House, Lamellion, Liskeard, Cornwall.

Merelyn was ill for about four years before she died but she never received a formal diagnosis.  Multiple System Atrophy was the closest thing to a diagnosis she had, but since her symptoms were atypical, even that was never confirmed.

David, Melissa and Joseph would like any donations made in her memory to go to the Multiple System Atrophy Trust because, if this was indeed what she was suffering from, it is a rare, cruel and unforgiving condition and support for those living and dealing with it is scarce.

Many thanks for thinking of her and for donating should you choose to.

Thoughts

Auntie Merelyn was a warm and friendly lady, I will always look back with fond memories of her. She would always join in with banter and was always a great laugh. Rest in peace Auntie Merelyn! Sorry for your great loss Uncle David, Melissa and Joe, my thoughts are with you. Mark.

Whenever I think of Auntie Merelyn, I think of laughter and fun. She invariably arrived at the many 'Knight Gatherings' with a delicious home-made trifle in her hands. I was always pleased to see her as she was upbeat and happy, and made everyone feel at ease. I have many happy memories of these family gatherings; of playing with cousins while the grown-ups shared humorous anecdotes in the kitchen. To this day, I still joke about 'the Knight wheeze' which I swear is a certain type of laughter that many family members seem to share, Auntie Merelyn included! I loved spending time in Uncle David and Auntie Merelyn's home in Callington – the Soda Stream was much coveted by Paul, Mark and I as kids! My parents like to remind me that Dave and Merelyn liked to choose 'quirky' presents for us children, which were great fun for us but not so much for my mum and dad who had to endure pump action water pistols and drums for example! Another memory I have is of going to a firework display with Uncle David, Auntie Merelyn, Melissa and Jo. Auntie Merelyn remarked on how everyone always made the same noises whilst watching fireworks - 'oooooooh' and 'aaaaaaaah'. We then spent most of that display making the same noises and laughing, and I still think of that every time I watch fireworks to this day. Auntie Merelyn was always very welcoming and made sure we had plenty of refreshments to hand. This continued through to my adulthood, when Paul (hubby) and I stayed overnight in Callington on route to Exeter airport and were made to feel very welcome indeed. We will all miss you lovely Auntie Merelyn and remember you with great fondness and love. Until we meet again at the great family reunion in the sky!! All my love, Suzie (and Paul and Kirsten) xxx

We were all so sorry to hear of the passing of Merelyn after her long drawn out illness. We have very pleasant memories of David and Merelyn's visit over here in Canada and of the numerous trips we made to various beauty spots including the falls at Niagara . Both Dave and Merelyn were such excellent company and my house was filled with laughter and good humour. Merelyn had a great amount of knowledge and enjoyed every aspect of nature and so we we were able to spend a good amount of time enjoying the varied Canadian wild life in which she took such an interest. On a humorous note , we took a trip to Sarnia , about sixty five kilometers, and on arrival there whilst parking the key broke off in the ignition. Fortunately we were still able to start the vehicle but had to turn around and head for home. Once again the situation was treated with their customary good humour. While over here on their visit it was obvious how caring Merelyn was as a mother and how much she thought about her children Melissa and Joseph, and of course , her grand children. They were a constant part of her conversation. She was a very good and proud Mother and I am sure she will be very sadly missed by them all. David and Merelyn appeared to be the perfect partners. They shared similar interests in Art , had similar tastes in music Both were teachers and both had the same quick witted sense of humour. These aptitudes made for a long and loving relationship which was sadly marred by Merelyn's prolonged and inexplicable illness . As an integral part of our family she will be missed by one and all . Tim , Jonathan and family and Joshua and family.
